Fighting JWs on Facebook

kind of new for me, but i have been letting go of being in fear of posting what i feel on fb.

i have been posting links to very good videos on youtube that show the history of the cult.

funny thing my one cousin posted how he missed a person who passed and that that god only takes the best to be with him.

I accepted FB requests from my believing younger brother and youngest little sister. My brother has been cool (and moderate, even tolerant) but my sister was full-on uber mode. I found it best to just de-friend my sister rather than irritate her further and elicit more hateful screeds.

People need to realize that friending or defriending on FB is not the end of the world. Some of my best real life friends are not friends on FB. Unfortunately some people conflate the two, which is frustrating and sad.

Spring hill fl JW kid is forced to pledge allegiance tothe flag

saw this article on yahoo.

there was a little jw kid whose teacher made him stand up and salute the flag and/or say the pledge in class.

he went to the administrator and she got suspended.....my lord the jws are going to be shouting great trib over this.

The refusal to pledge allegiance to the flag is one of the very few things that the Witnesses got right (though in fairness the Quakers got it right before the Witnesses did). The teacher involved has no excuse for her behavior. For Pete's sake, West Virginia v. Barnette is a 70 year old decision. Or did Florida secede again?

Paying the same through my wife's employer plan. They are refusing to accept new hires who smoke tobacco, and I suspect that is why the rates have remained stable this year.

By the way, I do insurance and financial services for a living, so if anyone needs help sorting their options I'd be happy to help. Feel free to PM me.

page 12 of the january 1,1989 wt original magazine paragraph 8 ends with the statement that the apostle paul's missionary activity laid a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.".

(a subtle prophecy that 'the end' will come by the year 2000 a.d.).

this sentence is changed in the bound volume reprint to read "a work that would be completed in our day.

many months ago, i shared the experience of my removal from jehovah's witnesses.

to quickly recap, i had faded from meetings as an unbaptized publisher starting at about age 14 and had later decided to attend college against the wishes of my family.

as i liked to write stories, i sought a job at the college newspaper and became a columnist.. i brought some of my newspapers home during the winter break of my sophomore year, the one time i visited my parents during college.

Rebel - I think closure, to me, would mean that my older brother was finally held accountable for selling me out to gain favor. In a greater sense, closure would be having this cult admit it made mistakes - and for that admission to finally open my family's eyes to the damage this cult can do.

In short, pipe dreams. The elders have no reason to admit wrongdoing. The WTBTS will never admit wrongdoing. There's nothing in it for them and 130 years of past history that tells me they'll use any contact as an overture to heap more guilt and blame on me.

Comatose, even my own family was confused about what they did with me. I was told I was DA'd, but after much debate on here some time ago we think the elders announced that I was 'no longer an approved associate'. It barely matters because the end result of both is still a shunnin'.

Have been having a textfest with my (in) little brother about this. Oddly enough he is presenting a talk two Sundays from now and had planned to reference the Troubles in Ireland.

He suggested writing the elders in my old congregation to get some closure. I would think any overture to the old congregation would be seen (wrongly) as an attempt to get reinstated. I want them to answer for what they did to me and my relationship with my family...but I don't want to open a dialogue which will likely be one-sided and I sure as hell don't want them knowing my address and trying to pry their way back into my family's business. The very last thing I want is two cheap suits at my door making sure the hanging is done right this time.

What do all of you think?

First off - thank you all for your comments and support. The feelings are still raw, 25 years later. Especially since I have no family because of this one article.

Zeb - I understand my older brother was showered with favors and was recommended for Bethel, which he attended. I believe he is at least an elder now, but as I haven't spoken to him in 23 years, I'm not sure of this.

Adamah - I think Data-Dog has the right of it. Yes, it's ostensibly about Protestants and Catholics, but they had to see this sentence as a broadside: "I believe just as strongly that the belief in a master religion is as dangerous and absurd as the belief in a master race." And it probably was. I wouldn't change a word of that. The concept of one religion asserting they alone 'have the Truth' is as nauseating to me now as it was then, especially given the doctrinal spins and about-faces the Organization has made since these words were printed. And at no point has the WTBTS held itself accountable or admitted error! It is so, so far from being "critical of and responsible for its actions as a whole". And I wrote those words not even realizing the half of it.

Getting shunned was going to happen anyway. It was only a matter of time. But still...
